RISETalk #38: Find Your Skill for Your Bright Future Career

Hello, Sobat Remaja!

In the 38th edition of RISETalk, we delve into career choices, self-promotion, and essential career tools under the theme “Find Your Skill for Your Bright Future Career.” Joining us was the remarkable expert, Ms. Erina Gudono, fondly known as Kak Erina.

Kak Erina graduated from the business department of Gadjah Mada University and is a prospective student at Columbia University. In 2022, Kak Erina was crowned the Princess of Indonesia (Puteri Indonesia) for the Special Region of Yogyakarta.

Kak Erina possesses an impressive array of career opportunities. Kak Erina boasts a diverse background that spans the consumer goods industry, e-commerce, and management consultancy, along with business and brand strategy. Apart from her role in the world of management, Kak Erina actively advocates for inclusive education through her involvement with various organizations, including Harapan Fian Yogyakarta, Komunitas Sekolah Marjinal, and Teksbook Indonesia. Remarkable, isn’t it?

For students seeking to acquire practical experience within major corporations, participating in internships represents one of the most productive activities. While pursuing internships with both local and global firms, we are advised to perfect our resumes to the point of memorization. In essence, it is crucial to demonstrate that the information presented in the CV aligns with what was communicated during the interview. This holds significance as the interviewer often confirms if we align with the company’s requirements.

It is crucial to remember that achievement and experience alone are insufficient. Recognizing our worth as an attractive prospect sought by the company is essential. We can look up details about the company and what they’re looking for in a candidate to find out. Following that, we evaluate the various variables to determine their suitability for us.

Next, you’ll want to look for someone who’s got experience with interviews. We can work on expressing things in a straightforward and clear way. While it’s not exactly like a real interview, practicing can at least help lessen your nerves.

Also, Sobat Remaja ought to learn what prevents someone from developing their abilities. First off, there are times when we doubt our capabilities. We frequently succumb to fear before attempting something genuinely remarkable. Not only from within ourselves, but the environment around us can also have an impact. So, it’s really helpful to have a network that backs us up in our journey of personal growth.

Several steps, indeed, must be taken to acquire new skills. There’s so much for us to check out. Exploring new things helps us discover what we enjoy and uncover hidden talents we might have. We need to be brave enough to try something completely new, even if it’s likely to fail. Don’t worry about failing; it’s actually how you grow stronger and learn to improve yourself.

There are many skills that Kak Erina believes will be useful in the future. When it comes to hard skills, companies are searching for data analysts, content creators, and those skilled in animated photo editing. When it comes to soft skills, we need to be emotionally intelligent, think critically, and have the courage to be creative.

Once we’ve talked about skills, the next cool thing to dive into is building your personal brand and boosting your self-worth. The key is to not fear messing up and to soak up wisdom from those who know more. Remember to consistently introduce new things while maintaining a strong and positive attitude. Maintaining consistency will yield the highest quality and value.

Kak Erina also shared some advice on how to go and compete for your dream job. The first key is preparation. Make sure you’re ready for whatever selection procedure that may come up. Second, don’t let one failure get to you. Everyone experiences failure, so it’s crucial to have the mindset and attitude to take risks and not be afraid to fail.

Finally, Kak Erina has a message for Sobat Remaja: she hopes we can achieve what we desire. Don’t stress or feel let down if it doesn’t work out because that’s just God’s way of guiding us to something better. Don’t compare yourself to others! Everyone has their path in life. Want to make progress? Try comparing yourself to who you were yesterday, so you can keep growing and creating.

Kick Off the 2nd Year of KOPAJA

On the first day of the activity, the agenda began with remarks from RISE Foundation representatives and the reading and signing of the cooperation contract. The main session discussed reflections on the implementation of the Urban Futures 2024 programme, with discussions on obstacles, lessons learned, and improvements that need to be made in 2025. One of the major changes is the adjustment of the cooperation model with CAI organisations, where in the future, KOPAJA will no longer refer to one particular organisation in involving inclusivity. This change aims to open up wider collaboration opportunities with various other inclusion organisations.
