Jogja National Museum, December 9, 2023 – “Freedom Women’s Stage, our collective stage!”. The Freedom Women’s Stage is an event initiated by Jakarta Feminist to provide an inclusive ‘stage’ for everyone. Featuring diverse activities including a bazaar, film screenings, workshops, and discussions on various topics, it offers opportunities for all to join and participate.
One of the activities in this event is a discussion organized by RISE Foundation and IPAS Indonesia Foundation on the theme “Collaboratively Moving Forward: Access to Healthcare Services for Women and Marginalized Groups”. Nur Intan Kartika Sari, Project Leader on Maternal and Child Health, presented findings from the Maternal and Child Health Issue Hearing Forum in 15 Districts, an initiative by RISE Foundation in partnership with USAID-MADANI. In her presentation, Intan highlighted field findings regarding gaps in the quality and accessibility of healthcare services.
“We found that Maternal and Child Health services at Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) still do not fully meet the aspects of Respectful Maternity Care,” said Intan. “Challenges such as complex administration, inadequate lactation room facilities, long queues, and shortages of equipment for pregnant women’s examinations still persist.”
Intan’s presentation also addressed the limitations in access to inclusive healthcare services for the general public, including difficulties due to geographical conditions, infrastructure damage, and resource shortages at Puskesma Pembantu (Pustu) or Pondok Bersalin Desa (Polindes). Ignatia Alfa Gloria, Policy and Advocacy Officer at IPAS Foundation, contributed insights based on her experience and knowledge in healthcare services for women and marginalized groups.
Participants emphasized the need for significant changes in healthcare service approaches in Indonesia to be more inclusive and equitable. The discussion held in the room served as input for upcoming consultations by RISE Foundation with various ministries and local agencies in Indonesia. The discussion is also expected to raise awareness and drive positive changes in efforts to achieve better healthcare services for women and marginalized groups.
