Think Before You Click: RISE Foundation’s Concrete Actions for Safer Internet Day 2026

The rapid growth of technology and artificial intelligence continues to shape our daily lives, bringing many opportunities while also creating new challenges in the digital space, such as misinformation and threats to privacy. In response to these changes, RISE Foundation took a proactive step by organizing the commemoration of Safer Internet Day 2026. With the theme “Think Before You Click: From Innovation to Digital Awareness,” the event was held in collaboration with Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta and involved 20 young people from the Special Region of Yogyakarta on Saturday, 21 February 2026. This initiative was designed as a learning space to strengthen digital literacy, helping young people navigate the online world in a more aware, safe, and responsible way.

The series of activities was designed to be interactive, encouraging active participation from all participants. During the session titled Insight Session: AI and Digital Security, Achmed Faiz Yudha from Center for Digital Society (CfDS) UGM, Melani Jayanti from Combine Resource Institution, and Achmad Cori Renanda from RISE Foundation discussed the various impacts of artificial intelligence in everyday life. The discussion highlighted the importance of protecting personal data and being aware of one’s digital footprint amid the rapid pace of technological innovation.

The insights gained were further developed through a reflective Workshop Zine session facilitated by RISE Youth Academy, creating a space that felt both personal and youth oriented. In this session, participants were encouraged to express their ideas and experiences through creative works that reflected their individual perspectives on the digital space.

Several participants expressed their concerns about social media culture, which they feel has become increasingly toxic. Others reflected on the growing use of artificial intelligence, raising worries about possible data misuse as well as its impact on originality and the future of work. Some of these works were later shared during the Sharing to Others session, creating a warm space for dialogue and showing the diverse perspectives young people have in responding to technological developments.

Through this initiative, RISE Foundation not only provided a space for discussion, but also encouraged the growth of collective awareness among young people to be more conscious about digital security. The message Think Before You Click serves as a reminder that every interaction in the digital space requires wisdom and responsibility. With a spirit of collaboration, this event reaffirmed a shared commitment to building a safer, more ethical, and inclusive internet ecosystem, as well as a more responsible use of artificial intelligence for everyone.
